Was playing with a couple of new (to me) techniques yesterday, and came up with this:

It's actually a combination of a bunch of things, but the colourising is a texture.

Black & white image, up the contrast & brightness until the skin is as white as possible and the features/hair/etc are as dark as possible.
Duplicate the layer and run 'filter > artistic > watercolour' on the duplicate.
On the base layer, go to Image > Adjustments > Threshold and slide it 'till looks right (again, making the features as dark as possible and the face/skin as white as possible)
Create another layer under base and fill with white.
Set the 'threshold' layer to multiply then flatten the whole thing.
New layer - this is your colours, I used a texture but you can do whatever you like on this one.
Go back to your image, Select A > Ctrl C
On your colour layer add a layer mask, hold your 'alt' key and click on the mask. (that should white out the whole thing)
Now hit Ctrl + V to paste your image onto the mask. Invert the colours (Ctrl + I) then click onto the bottom layer.

Voila. *grins*

I also added a parchment layer over the top and set that to Linear Burn.

it's kinda fun to do - only really works with images that have good contrast to start with (and a plain, prefereably light background).

Thankyou sweetie for the spontaneous tutorial :D

I shall try this tonight :) I have some w/land challenge stuff to do before I go away next weekend.

I'll post the results of this if I don't mess it up. Good to have you back *hugs*
