...
and I was doing so well as well... I came into work this morning with an open mind (well, as open as I could with my history in this place) and a determination to knuckle down and get on with work. I cleared a whole bunch of stuff and now, about five minutes ago, have come to a grinding halt.

This coincided with the first instance this morning of me having to open up one of my boss's Excel documents.

Excel is teh Ev0l, clearly. It has sucked all my willpower into the screen and is mocking me with its rows and columns and ability to add numbers without having to picture the sum in its head (yeah, I suck at maths and can barely do basic additions without a calculator if it doesn't involve making change). And to top it all I'm on a caffeine break - as in, I'm taking a break from caffeine. NaNoWriMo kinda scared me with the amount of coffee I was drinking, especially over that last week. Kidding myself by using a cup instead of a mug doesn't work if I still drink the entire pot and then immediately make another pot... :) so no caffeine for me today, or at least until my head explodes.

Excel and no coffee, this is hell isn't it?

Oh - almost forgot - new start in the office this morning, the boss takes her round and introduces her to us all and says after she leaves my desk "Shona's just back from a two week holiday so she's a little happy right now". And I'm not normally? Actually, wait, don't answer that...

Dude! I saw that ad last night on TV and had to drop everything just to stare at the screen and laugh uncontrollably! Genius stuff!

That's great. Something from my home town was in that too *g*.

Taking a break from coffee, does not compute! *g*

Hee! I know, me without coffee is like... something without something vital. See? Even my simile and metaphor skills have finally deserted me...

I'm thinking of perhaps sneaking a cup of tea if my headache doesn't go away after I take some 'brufen. That doesn't really count as caffeine does it? :)

This would be me if I had to give up coffee

Tea doesn't count, it's got less caffeine than coffee so we can just pretend it doesn't have any.

I like that argument!

I'll have to watch the clip when I get home - no headphones with me today which is another reason I'm getting grumpier as the day goes on... :)

Cold turkey on coffee?

Do you want to kill someone? :D

The specific someone who has been severly pissing me off for the past few days (and who *forgot* to give me my mp3 player back last night...)? Absolutely.

*g*

I was thinking more along the lines of random person who just happens to look at you wrong. :)

Probably?

Hey Mara! (: I hope that you get to feeling better soon. I definately know what it feels like to go through caffeine withdrawal. I really hate to tell you this but, that headache will be coming soon. And it will probably feel like getting slammed by a freight train when it does.

There's a softdrink that they sell here in the Southeastern United States, it's name, Sundrop. I honestly believe it was the predecesor to stuff like Red Bull. It's very good, but it has loads of caffeine and I would get a major caffeine buzz from drinking that stuff. It's great! And I got rather addicted to the stuff. When I finally decided to quit drinking so much of it I got killer headaches for a while.

The headache hit home around an hour and a half ago. I've taken some painkillers for it (Ibuprofen, I don't do paracetamol for various complex and ultimately dull reasons) but if it doesn't shift soon I am going to have to cave and go get some Irn Bru from the vending machine - it's the Scottish version of Sundrop from the sound of it! Pure caffeine in a bright orange liquid and the best damn hangover cure ever invented... :)

The new start turns out to be rather... blonde would be the nice way of saying it. Although personally, I think it's all an act. I kinda want to fast-forward ten years to when that whole shtick (shtick or schtick? I never know) is not going to be so *cute* and see how smart she is then, because I'm betting there's a whole heap of smarts hidden under that whole Marilyn act.

But yeah, my boss kinda sucks. I was talking to someone I've known for a while who had occasion to talk to my boss and my friend said to me "It's no wonder you don't get on, you both won't let go of something once you've started it." It freaks me out to think I might have anything in common with my boss but... maybe that explains some of the animosity in that place.

I do a lot of work with Excel, including programming advanced macros. So if you get stuck, yell.
