Moments Lost - site poll
I've been working on an overhaul of the sites I run for a while now, some of you know this already and some of you don't really care. Thing is, although some of them seemed like a great idea at the time, the interest has dwindled and they're sitting there like dinosaurs on the verge of extinction. So I ask you this, are there any of the sites which you would not want to see go, are there any that you think should go, and are there any that should I decide to give them up you might be willing to take on?

I should say that there are some sites I am not going to be getting rid of for the forseeable future, but for the sake of finding out where the interest lies I'm including everything in the poll.

Running an auto-archive site can be really rewarding, but it can also be a lot of work and stress in unpredictable ways. So if you want to take over one (or more) of the sites, have a think about if you actually have the time to devote to it.

ETA To clarify - two of these sites are currently works in progress and haven't been *officially* launched yet. Also, I ran a security update on some of them yesterday and there's been a bit of a screw up with two of the sites. I'm working on it. (my own archive (pointless nostalgic) and Spirit of the Heart are the two affected)

Dude, is Salt and Burn even *open* yet?

Officially? No. Unofficially the fic archive is there so kinda...

I'm not the Xander-fic fiend in this house, but I know Chris reads INAP regularly, and I love awards sites, which explains my voting. For the record. I have no idea what the demand is like for Xander-het-pairing-fic in the fandom, so I have no clue about your other sites...

Exactly. Except that I screwed up a security update yesterday so it's kinda... not there right now. Accidentally, I'm trying to work out what went wrong and bring it back (I ran the update on four of the sites, two worked, two didn't. I can't see why not right now.)
tessarintessarin on June 18th, 2007 09:10 am (UTC)
I voted for inap, effects, sineya and WKA. I'm suprised that key, hand and spirit have had so little or no activity. But I voted for them for removal due the lack of activity.

Maybe you should roll them all into a general Buffyverse/whedonverse archive ? There doesn't really seem to be one of those out there.
the girl who used to dance on fire and brimstone: scoobies - mewhiskyinmind on June 19th, 2007 05:52 am (UTC)
That's actually quite tempting. As it is, if I choose to get rid of the pairing sites, one could argue that they're already covered in INAP, but a general Slayerverse archive could be an interesting avenue to explore.
tessarintessarin on June 19th, 2007 09:32 am (UTC)
The thing with INAP is obviously the proviso that they be Xander centric rather than just featuring Xander or relating to Xander.

That's certainly the reason I have made use of Sineya which seems to have been the most successful of the new sites. Although I seem to be get plenty of hits on the story I have at Effects. Not to sure if that is passing traffic as no reviews.:-)

I had intended to post something on Key but am running a little behind schedule.

Coming back on the general idea the only concern I would have is the knock on effect on INAP as that still seems fairly vibrant and busy and is the premier Xander archive on the net. With the tightening of the fanfiction rules, the loss of slayerfanfic the only other big archive out there is TTH but that is crossover only.

You're making it worse.

...well I was born an original sinner,
I was born from original sin,
and if I had a dollar bill

there'd be a mountain of money
piled up to my chin...

Combining them is something I'm seriously considering now (especially since I ran some security updates last night and ended up screwing up some stuff... grrr.)

...rolling them up into one...

yeah.. that'll teach me to post before six am before my brain's engaged.

Can I have your naughty thoughts too?

Why not, I'm sure there's enough of Jensen's magic cock to go around *g*

I'm sitting here grinning like an idiot whilst I'm supposed to be updating the holdings on the OVID database. I think it's pretty clear I'm not actually working on the OVID database right now...

(still haven't seen the film by the way - almost watched it last night but I was feeling kinda drowsy 'cause of my cold so I watched Dark Angel instead)
Oh Castiel!: dare-to-dreamsmeckles90 on June 19th, 2007 08:17 am (UTC)
*tuts* awful :P I'll be in the library today in the afternoon, so I'll come wave lol

Oh by drowsy is the best way to watch it - if you can't focus on the plot, you only focus on the pretty and that is by far the better thing to be focusing on *nods*

Yay! I haven't rotated the picture yet - actually, there's plenty of wall behind me, I may just add to it rather than change it!

There's a plot?!

Keep forgetting to go to some of these sites when I need a dose of fic, rather than waiting for the next installment of one of my perennial favourite authors! But I've read quite a lot of other authors on DoS, and a bit on INAP, and there's some very good stuff there. 'twould be a shame for them to go.

Unfortunately I know nothing about hosting sites at the moment. But learning this sort of thing, creating and maintaining websites etc., is very much on my to do list, so it might not be impossible for me to consider taking something on at some point. (DoS? Though I see you don't list that one in that section of the poll.) Can't make promises at this stage though.

Also with my impending move to Sweden, my social life is likely to be reset to somewhere close to absolute zero for a while, so I may well be looking for more onliney thigns like this to do. Like those Topics from BBB way back last time I was there! *g*
the girl who used to dance on fire and brimstone: btvs//first slayer - mewhiskyinmind on June 20th, 2007 10:04 am (UTC)
It was an unintentional slip that DoS wasn't on the final part of the poll - completely forgot to put it in!

Honestly, I think it's been hands-down the most successful of the site launches so far so I would tend to bank on it not really going anywhere. INAP too - I have so much great help with that one and get so much enjoyment from the stories that it would be a real wrench to let it go. :)

Cheers!
