Writing stuff
I'm considering taking part in NaNoWriMo again this year but lately I've been focusing on drabbles and short fics, which I love doing - really, I think with drabbling I may have found my niche because I love getting that emotional gut punch. (I'm a drabble purist, 100 words or nothing, I've even been considering trying out micros (50 words)) So I'm struggling a little on longer stories. So... I thought, I have a fair few works in progress, all of which I have planned out and yet are sitting unwritten because I can't get back into the groove.

So. Here's where you guys get your chance.

I will answer *any* question about any of my works in progress, including where I plan to take it or what the basic plot point is. I'll talk about how I write it, what music I listen to when I'm working on it, where I write it, where I got the inspiration from. Anything really.

So here's my writing masterlist. All my works in progress which have had at least one part posted* are on there (and marked in red).

Wanna know about them? Ask.

Wanna know about any of the completed ones? Ask.

*if it's not been posted yet, I won't be talking about it. (Looks at wenchpixie, this means TtPtR.)

(plus, still officially hiatusing so if there's anything you want me to see, please link me?)

Re "Final Straw", I think the only question I can come with is OMG WHEN AR YOU GUN TO WRIET MOAR? Which I suppose sort of misses the point of your post.

Oh, I know - you started writing it from the nurse's? POV and switched to primarily Faith. I remember it threw me because I thought the entire thing would be from the nurse's POV, and much as I love Faith, I was intrigued by the outsider perspective. Any plan on returning to Alita as a character, in any way, shape or form?

Alita was a really fun way of writing the prologue for me. Final Straw came from a 10K challenge - to write 10,000 words in 10 weeks - and my two betas at the time were expecting my first 1000 words that day. I had written a completely different prologue - from Xander's POV - and was completely unhappy with it. It felt too much like he was being whiney that everyone was too busy focusing on their own problems to notice him and that was veering too much into the kind of Xander fic I hate reading, where he's the victim of all the meeen girlz who just don't understand him.

So that morning, I decided to completely rewrite it from an outsider's POV, and Alita was born. I knew the later parts of the story would come from another person's viewpoint other than Xander (at the moment it's Faith, it's about to go into Giles' POV, before finally going back to Xander) so it made sense for someone who was aware there were issues with Sunnydale but not precisely what they were to take the lead in the prologue.

She wasn't intended to be the main POV, or even really a recurring character, in the whole thing, but honestly it was so refreshing to write/read the outsider's POV like this that I want to get back into her shoes. Find out about her husband and her two teenage daughters, know what she wants to do with her life and what it's been like dealing with the aftershock of Sunnydale.

Of course, the main group has gone to Cleveland and she's still in California, so any continuation from her would perhaps not work so well in FS, unless I restructure the logistics a little.

Drabbling is fun. I used to do it all the time. I am glad it is fulfilling you creatively.

I was wondering about Crimson regret particularly the thinking behind the title. Whether it was originally planned as part of a larger sequence etc.

There is indeed. To my shame (in one way, although I started using it before it became a cliche - just) it's actually a lyric from an Evanescence song. The 'series' started with All Of Me, continued with Alone All Along and then into CR*. The first two are also Evanescence song lyrics but since in my head those are primarily Faith stories (even though AAA is completely within Xander's POV) they're from a different song.

There is a very definite reason for the lyric choice in this story which is ultumately the central point of the story, and is therefore incredibly spoilery for where it's going, but which I will tell you if you want - let me know!

I do love that particular version of my post-Chosen tales and would like to continue it, but it all depends on whether I commit to doing what I initially started CR to do.

*Happy in a Land of Us is also set in this universe although it's Andrew-centric and doesn't actually further the Xander-Faith story

Count me among one of CR's biggest fans! What kinda motivation is needed to kick start your sleepy muse?

I would love to know where this story is headed, the spoiler fun and of course when and if Faith survives her burns. Then she and Xand can have some mad weasel fun.

Also just curious, but where was you head about the Willow character when you wrote this. It was one of the more honest portrayals of the willow character in fanfic and I loved it. It really did become all about her.

Talking about the fic is actually getting my interest in it back again. To save people who might not want to know about where it's going reading it here - I've put it in a new post http://mara-sho.livejournal.com/641407.html#cutid1

(Thanks by the way!)

You know that's spoiler torture :-)

Now I don't now whether to read the post to resolve the evil cliffhanger of doom or desperatly hope your muse will allow you to finish the fic. **sob**

I'm sorry... (*wishes I still had my Faith as temptress icon in my rotation...*)

I will say that talking about both FS and CR is sparking my muse a little. I am committed to one fic in particular (a Dark Angel one that's not been posted anywhere yet) but once that's done, I think these two will be bumped to the top of the list again.
tessarintessarin on September 25th, 2007 09:20 am (UTC)
No probs :-) It's just the temptation..... I'm glad you didn't have the Faith temptress icon as then I might not been able to resist your siren call. LOL

Jumps up and down happily ignoring fellow office worker looks.

Well not really but I was doing it inside.:-)

Thanks' hadn't read the other fic, well because Andrew but since I need to get a handle on his characterisation I may have to read it now.
