I am five.
Ow.

Ow.

Ow!

So yesterday I had fire warden training, yes, at some point in the near future I get to wear a hi-vis vest and tell students to keep the exits clear. Go me! (so does monkey_matt though, they're clearly letting anyone do this job...) and coming back from the training I slipped and fell. I grazed my knee. The same knee I grazed really badly last Christmas. The same knee that's had a keloid scar on it *since* last Christmas. The same knee that after that fall yesterday looked like someone had tried to flay me but got bored after thirty seconds.

That was bad enough.

And then as I was walking (slowly and carefully) down the steep hill from work, I fell again. And landed on the same knee.

And got up, and walked another ten steps. And fell again. And landed on the same knee.

And got up, walked (even more slowly and carefully) and made it about half way down the hill before falling again. And landing on the other knee.

It hurt like hell. There was blood inside my jeans.

Today, it still hurts and the escalators were off at both underground stations. Going down stairs is worse than going up, but it's sore either way.

So I'll be off in the corner for the rest of the day wondering exactly what it is that mothers have in their kiss that makes it all better, because I really don't remember the pain lasting this long when I was a kid...

*mwah*

And use an ice pack for swelling. I've done that myself, and it *hurts*.

It's weird isn't it? I was always a bit of a tomboy so I was constantly falling off my bike, pushing through thorn bushes, getting all kinds of injuries. But I swear it felt as if all I had to do was get up, brush myself off, and it'd be fine.

Ice pack - never thought of that. *facepalm* Cool, I will try that out - cheers!
Ah yes, quite a bunch of us, isn't it?unhobbityhobbit on November 20th, 2007 10:50 am (UTC)
Was it icy? Have you in fact, touched a cursed rabbits foot? You must think hard, have you encountered any possibly cursed objects? Have any shifty-looking persons returned a book to you? Were they grinning maniacally?

There were wet leaves, but now I come to think of it... there was that rabbit's foot key ring I had that I seem to have lost.

Dammit!

Ah, yes. The awesome responsibility of shepherding people out of the way of fire. Seriously, if they aren't capable of making that decision on their own, then let them burn. Which is kind of what the dude doing the training said...

That dude was cool - I loved the way he zoned in on J with the comment about sending the ugliest fireman in to rescue her...

Yup, have the Cat boots on today - the ones that got me through the mammoth walk last week - and my jeans are currently on top of the laundry pile because of all the mud that got on them.

Yes. Yesterday is now officially striken from the records. *nods once more*

'Ow,ow ow'

I am sending you a mother's kiss thru the interwebby. It is a wellknown fact it contains anesthetic. *mwah*

This is going to sound gross, but I just went and cleaned it in the bathroom, and now it's all oozy again. So, as a mother, should I just leave it be and let it form a crust?

*shudders*
thedothatgirlthedothatgirl on November 20th, 2007 04:13 pm (UTC)
If it's clean but just oozy - I would say yes.

Try and get some lint free gauze dressing on it when you get a chance, otherwise everything is gonna stick to it.... Does work have a decent First aid box?
the girl who used to dance on fire and brimstone: text//jane espenson fans support the wriwhiskyinmind on November 20th, 2007 04:16 pm (UTC)
decent first aid box... ha!

Nope. Not sure if there's gauze in there though, I'll check. Cheers! (I have 'absorbent lint' in the house, I debated putting that on last night - I take it that's bad?)
thedothatgirlthedothatgirl on November 20th, 2007 06:41 pm (UTC)
Might stick - you need something that is kinda shiny and not fuzzy on the surface but absorbent behind it.

Boots do excellent wound dressings with a absorbent gauzy square in the middle of a plaster. I've had to use loads lately (story for another time and not before meals...)

I just went and cleaned it up some more and it's actually worse now. I think I should have just left it alone for a while... :(

It's really nuts, I had so many grazed knees and elbows when I was a kid, that to have this still be hurting now (well over 24 hours later) is just... nuts.

(channel Dean all you like! If you could, say, channel him in my direction then...)

It's ridiculous how much this is still hurting!

Dude, take care of yourself. Please?

*hugs you*

I'm trying, the leaves are conspiring against me and making me slip all over the place...

*hugs you again*
emorpheusemorpheus on November 20th, 2007 09:42 pm (UTC)
I think traveling around in those street sweepers would be the way to go cause that way all those leaves would get sucked up so no more slipping, and if you do get one can you see if you can get me one?

Don't want to sound alarmist but if its still hurting maybe its infected?
*hugs*

p.s and no its the branches that are low :)
the girl who used to dance on fire and brimstone: spn//sam's bad day - mata090680whiskyinmind on November 20th, 2007 09:53 pm (UTC)
Someone at work suggested I get one of those heavy duty leaf-blowery things to carry with me everywhere I go. That might solve it?

I don't think it's infected, I've been keeping it pretty clean and I think that might actually be making it worse since it reopens and oozes every time I clean it. I should just let it scab over and be disgusting...

No, you're taller than should be allowed.

Trees! Are like vegetation ninja's. Branches dropping without warning, leaves lying in wait for the unsuspecting walker. Hope you're okay, hon.
the girl who used to dance on fire and brimstone: spn//sam's bad day - mata090680whiskyinmind on November 20th, 2007 09:51 pm (UTC)
Vegetarian Ninjas. Yup - that sounds about right!

I'm annoyed that something that I would have shaken off twenty years ago is still annoying me (and making my limp like an old woman!) today. Guess I must be getting old or something!

(btw - I'm *really* hoping to have your CD cover/artwork done by the weekend!)
emorpheusemorpheus on November 20th, 2007 10:14 pm (UTC)
i have you know that i am exactly 1 dave in hight and if you think that is way to tall a shall have to tell you about the time my folks and i went to that Falkirk Wheel...

a leave blower would work.. as you can take that into your work...
you not old sho cause if you are then i am also and that just isn't so. Tonight i got told about gell stuff that helps with limb pains (forgets name) so perhaps something like that to put around knee may work?
iyalodeiyalode on November 21st, 2007 12:33 am (UTC)
Ack, no worries about the cover/artwork. You're doing me a huge favour and I know how hard things have been lately for you, don't worry about it.

Actually, I've been meaning to ask, is it too late to change a song or two? If not, no worries. I am unfortunately, a tinkerer and cannot leave well enough alone *facepalm*
the girl who used to dance on fire and brimstone: spn//rl j2 hugs - lidiwhiskyinmind on November 21st, 2007 10:32 am (UTC)
Not a problem at all! I've been meaning to say it's a really good mix as it is - just let me know what the new ones are and what the track order is and I'll get going with it!
iyalodeiyalode on November 22nd, 2007 11:28 am (UTC)
